About Kerning Editorial

Kerning Editorial offers services for writers, corporations, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organizations looking to elevate professionalism in their literary footprint. Aside from this entrepreneurial pursuit, we connect with personal stories in the local community, coaching those with literary aspirations and opening avenues to those whose access to literary and publishing opportunities is limited.

With professionalism garnered from a corporate career, Kerning Editorial is successfully set up to offer the best in both technical and intuitive editing. The opportunity to ensure your work, including every intended nuance, is flawlessly executed for your chosen audience is truly rewarding.

The business is set up for flexible offerings as we provide recurring services to PR firms, law firms, manufacturing organizations, marketing agencies, and indie publishers, as well as services as needed for writers of fiction and nonfiction.

In addition to the editing services Kerning Editorial focuses on, my reach includes ghostwriting and content writing for businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profit organizations. I can be directly contacted for both writing and ghostwriting projects via contact@kerningeditorial.com.

Full disclosure: we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Editorial snobbery from decades past has no place in the way we work. At Kerning Editorial, you will find a partnership based on collaboration, experience, and competence – with a smidgen of levity, which is unavoidable. Within the seriousness of what we do, we always find time for the lighter side of life.

What you can expect when working with us:

  • A complimentary consultation – your overall expectations of the project will be discussed when we meet. No two projects are alike, and we will go over what is important to you, along with how our manuscript evaluation, proofreading, and editing services can help.
    • Many clients prefer to discuss the project via email vs. a call or Zoom meeting, which works as well. We will only proceed with a sample edit once both parties are on the same page regarding expectations and next steps.
  • Rates – will be based on a review of your project and deadlines. Bundles are available for multiple project and service options.
  • For one-time projects: You will receive a Letter of Agreement (LOA) for your approval and signature detailing the project. This LOA will act as our contract. A 50% non-refundable deposit will be required at the time of signing.
  • For recurring projects and services: We will agree and execute a contract with exact details of expectations and payments before we proceed.
  • Kerning Editorial has expertise using the following style guides:
    • The Chicago Manual of Style
    • The Associated Press Style Book (AP)
  • Based on your project requirements for U.S. or UK English, the Merriam-Webster, Oxford, or Collins dictionaries will be used.
  • Style guides and style sheets – your style guide/sheets, also known as House Style, will be followed meticulously during the editing and proofreading process. In the absence of one, we will create a complementary style sheet to ensure consistency.
  • The following editing and proofreading programs are available for your projects. If you are not familiar with one or more of these, we will go over the pros and cons of each during our initial call:
    • Microsoft Word Track Changes
    • Adobe Reader
    • Google Docs
    • Proofreading Marks
  • Status updates – drafts of edits and work-in-progress status will be reviewed with you as often as agreed.
  • Project completion – a meeting can be set up for a final review of any questions you may have.
  • Final payment will be invoiced along with the completion of the project.
